In November of 2016, documents from the 1960’s were revealed that showed that the sugar industry funded Harvard researchers to shift the blame for heart disease from sugar to fat. Unbelievable!
This is the time frame that people began to fear fat! Low-fat and non-fat products started to skyrocket in production and sales. The Food Pyramid was adjusted so that the base of your diet should be carbohydrates. They recommended 6-11 servings of carbohydrates (bread, pasta, cereal, grains or rice) and fats were to be used “sparingly”.
However, since the introduction of low-fat guidelines and the masses shifted towards carbohydrates and sugar, obesity and diabetes rates climbed. Also, a study done in 1998 showed that areas of the World with the lowest saturated fat intake had the highest heart disease and the areas with the highest saturated fat intake had the lowest heart disease.
Sugar has been shown to be 8x more addictive than cocaine and to have major negative effects on the body. Overloading with sugar raises blood sugar, which raises insulin and sends the signal to the body to store excess sugar as fat. Elevated insulin also increases hunger! Fat gain is inevitable and diabetes will follow among other serious health issues. Cut the sugar! Especially processed sugar – sweets, candies, sodas, etc.
Use healthy fats to break the sugar cycle! Add coconut oil, avocado, olives, nuts, seeds, wild salmon, sardines, anchovies, olive oil, avocado oil, ghee, or grass-fed butter(as long as you don’t have a dairy issue) to your daily routine and especially when you have your cravings (evenings for most!). Focus on getting to the 30 day mark because your taste buds will regenerate by then and you will be tuned to stay away from sugar by default. Not to mention, you will have set yourself on a pathway to become leaner, healthier and happier.
